Two fires, sparked within an hour of one another, gutted homes on opposite ends of Staten Island earlier this morning.
The first incident, a two-alarm blaze originating at a home next to Immanuel Lutheran Church on Richmond Avenue in Bulls Head, was first reported at 10:21 a.m.
FDNY companies from across the Island responded and were able to subdue the bulk of the flames, which also scorched a nearby roadside greenhouse, shortly after 11 a.m.
Two firefighters were reported with minor injuries.
Less than 15 minutes later, however, a three-alarm fire broke out at 27 Occident Avenue in Stapleton.
With much of the Island's firefighting resources depleted by the earlier blaze, much of the FDNY response came from Brooklyn-based companies.
Dozens of firefighters from more than 20 companies were able to finally bring the bulk of the fire under control after a 45 minute battle.
It was unclear if any injuries had been sustained in that incident.
Causes of the fires have not been determined, but investigations are ongoing.
