A visiting poodle found more than a friendly fire hydrant in midtown.
Impala, who hails from Tennessee, was temporarily taken in by firefighters at Engine Co. 8 after one of his owners collapsed at an E. 49th St. parking garage.
The small white dog, traveling with a married couple, was left in limbo when the wife suffered a seizure and ambulance workers said the canine couldn't ride with her husband to the hospital.
"We could see they were in a bind," said Firefighter Mike Terriberry, 30. "It was a young couple. So we just did the best we could to help them."
As husband and wife sped off, members of the Bravest grabbed a dog bed and food from the couple's car and brought Impala to their nearby firehouse.
The pooch, pining for his owners, sat on the floor with his nose pointing sadly toward the parking garage until the couple reappeared about 4 a.m. Friday.
"When his owner finally came, he was so happy," said Firefighter Andy Owens. "He starting jumping and jumping - I mean, real high. It was so funny."
