Battle for the Mayor's Cup

NY Daily News - August 25, 2010

by Lisa Colangelo

The second annual Mayor's Cup, a soccer match between city police and firefighters, will take place on Saturday at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.

The FDNY vs. NYPD match is scheduled to start after the Red Bulls vs. San Jose Earthquakes 7:30 p.m. game.

All proceeds will benefit the New York City PBA Widows' and Children's Fund and the Firefighter Sergio Villanueva Soccer Foundation.

That foundation was created in honor for Villanueva, who died in the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Its goal is to "promote international goodwill through the global sport of soccer."

It has provided more than $350,000 in soccer scholarships to students at Hofstra University and Holy Cross High School.
