9/11 Sick Get an Extension

NY Post - August 26, 2010

by BRUCE GOLDING

Sickened Ground Zero workers have an extra two months to decide whether to accept a pending $712.5 million settlement offer from the city.

The WTC Captive Insurance Co. has extended until Nov. 8 the deadline for plaintiffs to "opt-in" to the proposed deal, which needs 95 percent participation to take effect.

The federally funded insurer said more than half of the 10,000-plus people who filed suit in Manhattan federal court had accepted their offers.

"We decided to extend the deadline to make sure every plaintiff has ample time and information to make an informed decision," WTC Captive president and CEO Christine LaSala said.
