Responders Push Again for Zadroga

Ailing 9/11 first responders readied a final lobbying effort yesterday to pass the $7.4 billion Zadroga bill that will start with a Sept. 15 rally at the Capitol.

The responders “were promised help by the federal government and after nine years they’re still waiting,” said John Feal, head of the FealGood Foundation supporting the James Zadroga Health and Compensation Act.

The bill failed in a bitterly contested House vote in July and the New York delegation has been pressing for another vote. The Democratic leadership has slammed Republicans for failing to get behind the 9/11 health bill.

Last month, complaints from Feal and others of a lack of White House support prompted President Obama to announce that he was eager to sign the bill.
