FDNY Fighting Fire in The Bronx

WAKEFIELD (WABC) -- Firefighters are battling a six-alarm fire that has spread to at least seven businesses on a commercial strip in the Bronx.

A FDNY spokesman says 12 firefighters have suffered injuries in the early morning blaze on Thursday. None of the injuries are life-threatening.

The fire came in at 12:23 a.m. at 4225 White Plains Road, a record store, and quickly spread to a nail salon, a church, an accounting office and several other stores.

Firefighters were reportedly inside the record store when the roof started to sag, forcing everyone out. The chief said they need to put out the fire safely. "The roof collapsed into the building," Chief Edward Kilduff. "This causes the fire to be buried under the roof, so it's very difficult to penetrate."

Some of the firefighters are being taken to the hospital, others are being evaluated at the scene.

The blaze is affecting subway service in the area.

There is no word on the cause of the fire.
